Why do we celebrate Small Business Saturday?

Why do we celebrate Small Business Saturday?

During the month of November, Jolene’s Tea House invites you to celebrate Small Business Saturday. Not only once but on the three last saturdays of the month: we honor the dreamers, the risk-takers, and the passionate individuals who turn their visions into reality.

Welcome to our Small Business Saturday series, when every purchase tells a story and every transaction builds a community.

Stay connected and join us to enjoy some incredible gifts and discounts on the 16, 23 and 30 of November.

A Labour of Love

Wellness is a personal journey, with a unique meaning for everyone. Jolene shares hers:

"In my early twenties, while living in Australia, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with a naturopath, Jan Smith. I absorbed her wisdom, and soon found myself studying Ayurvedic medicine courses in the evenings. Turning to nature for answers made so much sense to me. Tea embodies this power in so many ways.

Over the years, as I built my business, I traveled to hundreds—maybe thousands—of farmers markets and artisan shows across Canada. The question I heard most often was, ‘What’s the healthiest tea you have?’ My answer: ‘What type of tea do you enjoy?’ While quality ingredients offer support, the enjoyment of tea and the pull it creates shouldn’t be underestimated.

The answer that resonates most deeply with me lies in my personal daily tea ritual—a brief moment to pause, lean in, and connect."

"Rejoice in everything—even the small things. If you start rejoicing, even a cup of tea takes on sacred significance."Osho

Behind every small business is a story of perseverance. Jolene started her business in 2005 in Banff, a beautiful place. Yet, like every entrepreneur, her journey has been shaped by long hours, extensive travel, and sacrifices. Her story is fueled by a deep sense of purpose, a commitment to learning, boundless creativity, and unwavering determination.

Your Cup of Change

Through partnerships with backcountry lodges, hotels, restaurants, and of course, the loyal customers of Jolene’s Tea House, she has built a network of support that extends far beyond her shop's walls.

So this Saturday—and every day—let’s raise our cups to the small businesses that flavor our lives with passion, perseverance, and a personal touch. Visit your local shops, share their stories, and be part of the beautiful tapestry they create.
